I have a request for a report which is a combination
of a summary report and a detailed report. Currently
there are two reports for this. How do I combine the
the two to produce a composite report?

I'll start by copying the summary report and adding some detail layouts with the required data.
This will print "blocks" of detailed data and summarys at the end of the report or on specified fieldchanges.

I would do the opposite - I would copy the detailed report to a new report. Then copy the layouts from the summary report into it. And we would both achieve the same goal - a combined report. :)
Really look at the layouts you need or give you the best start and copy that report and start working from there.
