when i am running the report it shows the error "error in reading sort file record. 9 files scanned,35 to be fetched". can anybody suggest me that why that error is coming?

Well not sure this is the same situation, but the few times I ran into this I found the data in the input fields was corrupted. It could be caused by control characters in the data or by even misaligned data types. Not sure if this is your situation, but something you can check by validating the data in the temp file that gets created with the report.

Also search on the error in the tools forum, you might find other solutions.

This error comes when there is an error "divided by zero" either in ur report script or in the report fields. Please check once.

try the report output for small set of data, rather den open region...
