How can I set an enviroment variable in the GUI witout having to set it on every local PC?
Is there a script on the central computer that is used by the GUI, where I could set this variable?

I am not sure but try ${BSE}/lib/bse_vars.

Database settings should be put into ${BSE}/lib/defaults/db_resource.
