Hi,

I have a problem with the printer daemon .... well ... actually the server itself is causing the problem to be precised. This is the scenario.

The printer daemon, upon successfull server shutdown and startup will create and remove the file pd_lock located in $BSE/tmp.

Lately, my server (HP-UX) has not be performing well which required interactive restart. When this happen, the pd_lock will not be removed and upon server startup the pdaemon will not be started.

At this point, I will remove the pd_lock and restart the pdaemon manually.

This is where the problem started. Printing to remote printer is no problem but when printing to local printer (attached directly to server), no printing take place.

When I view the lp log file, this error msg is received.

030103-06:30:43: Error in lp command:
lp: can't access file "/software/baan/bse/tmp/prtmpEAAa02411" lp: request not accepted
030128-13:36:48: Error in 'lpstat -p lp' command:
lpstat: "lp" not a request id or a destination
030130-11:39:31: Missing argument.

I have tried to restart the BaaN licence daemon on a few occassions with intermittent results.

The last resort is to restart the server gracefully.

My question is:

1) How do I resolve this problem without restarting the server and re-initialize the BaaN licence daemon coz these steps will disrupt the users. I need to minimise this especially during month-end processing.

Thanks in advance

Mok

You do not need to restart the license daemon, just the printer daemon.

How is your local printer setup in Baan, and have you tested the command at unix level? Looks like a problem with permissions (umask mismatch between the startup script and the user that starts manually the pdaemon?) and/or printer setup...
