HI every body,

I have some questions about bisam to oracle migration:

Details:
Baan IV c4 SP 4 / AIX ver 4.1.3 - RS/6000 - IBM
/ Porting SET 6.1c.04.02.
Oracle 8.1.7

1. Do I need any special Porting Set version?

2. Do I need to update my BaaN Service Pack (now SP4)

3. Can I change first a demo company to Oracle and have the production company in Bisam ?

4. Oracle 8.1.7 is it right for this BaaN Version?. (or it could be better 9i)

5. Its necessary a special BW versión.

6. For to work with level 2 , only I need to change my tabledef6.1 (ORA_LEVEL = 1) or do I need more changes (in the oracle installing process). ?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Just some quick answers :

1. Yes. For Oracle 8.1 support you need at least 6.1c.05 but even that one is old.
Also your current AIX version does not support Oracle 8.1.7 (4.3.2 is minimum)

2. Do not think so.

3. Yes, setup a distributed environment with the demo company in another database.

4. If your box is big enough and is 64-bit, you might consider 9i, but it is heavier than 8i, and a LOT heavier than bisam

5. no, unless a porting set upgrade requires it

6. Just do not specify ORA_LEVEL1. Leverl 2 is the default, and with the right tuning it performs as good (or bad) as level 1 for BaanIVc4

I would also go through a hardware/OS/disk sizing analysis. Since you are adding a significant additional process with Oracle, unless your current system is extremely underutilized, you will probably need some type of hardware upgrade.
