Hi, All,

We are currently using the Baan IV System which is running on SUN Solaris platform. As we know, the Baan System license key is 'valid' for a particular machine. If we need to migrate to a new server, then re-activation is required - this is normally a disaster to those who did not on maintenance contract.

So, we are planning to migrate to the Infor LN in future and run it on the virtual platform - MS Windows 2008 Server on VMWare. Since it is run on virtual platform, can I say it is 're-activation free' if I need to move the VMWare file from one host to another host?

Anyone can help on this matter?

Thanks in advance...

With Regards,
Jin Seong

The license for ERP LN uses SLM as a license server. That still needs to run on a physical server. The ERP LN server can use a client to verify the license running on the physical server.

Thanks for your info.

But, I need to ask whether a license key or activation key is required to setup a new SLM license server?

If yes, when the SLM is down, can I setup the SLM license server on another physical server by using the existing license key? Or a new license key or activation key is required, and I have to get it from Infor?

Thanks in advance...

Hello,

no, you can not use the same key. You would have to get a new key.

But you can get a temporary SLM key within minutes via the Infor support site.
And to be on the safe side you can install a SLM cluster, that means two or more SLM license servers. If one fails, the other(s) provide the licenses.

Have a nice day.

With the newest version of SLM 7.2.0.4, you can install SLM on the vmware server, but be carefull about the host-id.. it is better to remove the old version, and install a new 1 from scratch and fill in again all the license keys...
