Is it possible to install Baan-IV on a virtual server (VM-Ware)?
And if so, are there special points of attention?

Yep, definitely technical possible. Whether it is supported though for a production environment, is a different question.

Points of attention? In case of windows the license is depending on the mac adress of the network card, so make sure it does not change after licensing.

In VmWare the Mac adress is a result of the system ID of the virtual machine. If you copy a virtual machine or move it to a different location, then VmWare asks you to generate a new ID or not. So when you generate a new one, then the Mac adress changes and the license will not work anymore.

Kroef, From the Inforum'2008, it was indicated they are officially supporting VMWare for the Application Server. But you have to check with the Baan support which particular version of Baan & VM are supported.

As Markus pointed out SLM is not supported in VM.

Hi,
I guess it would be best to look at an OS independent Virtualization like VMWare ESXi instead of VMWare Server. The latter can be used as a test machine or at best a HotSpare for the Live Server (just to provide some sort of continuity) but would be too slow for a Production Server. ESXi on the other hand can handle a Live Production system and the virtualization is done at the Hardware level and so is more robust.
