i downloaded the latest porting set (master cd) to install my brand new server. during setup i'm not be able to create an instance.

This cd was the latest on infor. my old mastercd does not support oracle 9i.

May be you already have a database instance on the machine (or if it has been uninstalled, the uninstall may not have executed correctly. The way I see it, the setup is probably detecting an instance of database already installed on the machine. Hmm.. see if anything of this sort is true.

I don't install servers from the master cd. If you already have a running environment you can copy that one to the new server and change it to meet you requirements as soon it's running.

If you insist on install it from the master cd I propose that you call Infor. They have the knowledge why this installer is behaving so bad.

Is the oracle listener up and running? (You can check by connecting with oracle enterprise manager)

Are the Oracle environment variables properly set (e.g. $ORACLE_HOME)
