We have a NT Server (ML570 with 2 CPUs PIII Xeon 733Mhz , 1 GB RAM ,18 GB -5 nos HDDs in RAID 5). We have 22 Baan IVc4 licenses with SQL7 DB.
With just 22 users , the machine is very very slow.
Can someone let me know what tuning is required in SQL 7 to increase the speed / performance of the machine?Any other parameters which I need to check in SQL7 Server or NT Server ?

Hi,
For best performance contact with BaaN support because it's depend upon certain parameter. Only user can explain all these parameters.
e.g parameters are
Number of users.
Number of Transaction on daily basis.
etc.

I support a site with almost the exact same setup, the same server and 20 users. one thing I found was that it was better to set a specific amount of memory to sql rather than have it dynamic other wise the server would start to run slower and slower over time until it was rebooted. I still like to schedule a reboot about every 4 to 6 weeks.

I Understood you are putting everything (Baan, DB and Log) into the same physical discs (RAID5).
The general recomendation for these kind of systems (not only Baan), is to put the at least the redo logs into a separate physical space. Of course, some DB's are more sensitive to this than others.
My experience is that for Oracle this is essencial. For MSSQL you can also notice a performance improvement.

I Have Some Questuions Regarding Ur Baan System?
1. What Is Ur Data Base Size ?
2. Have U Ever Re-organzied Ur Baan Tables?
3. Have U Ever Clear Baan Tmp Directory?
4. What Is Ur Audit Policy In Baan ?
5. Have U Deploy Any Other Application Over Same Server?
6. Have U Regularly Checks Urs Event Viewer?
I Will Ask Some More Questions After I Get The Answers.
