Hello,

What are the implications of creating tables indexes through the backend database? I appreciate that you will not be able to see these indexes from within Baan.

We have various Crystal Reports running against the price list tables - tdsls032- where the performance is very bad. We would like to add an additional index. Our Oracle DBA is asking can we not create the index in Oracle and not Baan.

Thanks

Philip

You most certainly can create indexes in Oracle outside of Baan. If you have access to Baan Tools development then you can add other indexes through Baan too. We have third party applications that interact with Baan and Oracle and these applications have created indexes in Oracle. We found that these indexes get used in the case of running Crystal Reports or other independent SQL queries.

We frequently add indexes on the Oracle side here.
Keep a proper log, because it might interfere with future table updates.

In Oracle 9i, you can even start overruling Baan hints and exchange them for hints that actually work ;)
