Is it possible to install BaaN on a UNIX m/c using UNIX SUPERUSER 'su'? Or is it absolute mandatory that I shud logon as 'root'? Am not doin a remote tape installation.

Also, is it possible for maintaining different passwords for baan, applic, demo, tools, bsp etc than that of the one that is given in the manual?

Also, shud the password of 'system'(oracle) and 'sys' be 'manager' during the installation?

Is the 'install 6.x' script programmed this way?

cheers

1) 'su' will do. Better use su - to get the proper root ENVironment.

2) it is easier to change the passwords afterwards but yes they can be anyting you like. In fact you only really need the UNIX user bsp. For the 'baan' user it is sufficient that it exists as the database owner of the tables.

3) nope, it can be anything you like. The install6.x should prompt you for the DBA passwords.

I was asking this question coz the installation manual says that "do not install using 'su'"

I am in a situation wheree i can't use root throughtout, even when I have to supply values of root password during the course of installation and then logging from BW client from windows with user root, during installation.
I am doin a Baan5c installation on HPUX10.20
