Which piece of third party software do you use the most and is it really useful?

Hey Ravenscross,

You forgot to add the option None cos that's what I want to vote for!

Ravenscross

So why you looking at the forum then? Hehehehe...

Ravenscross

And I would edit it, but I don't have moderators authority to do that!

You have Seagate Crystal Reports, Seagate Info and Seagate Analysis - does that all come under Seagate?

That "none" option sounds interesting - wonder how many votes it would get.

Theres many other 3rd Partys out there worth mentioning

Aside from from the report writing ones, there are Baan Software add-ons like Proloq.

Now thats an interesting product. :p

The main point of this forum is to try and get a full list of all the third party products out there and what they do, so if you come across one not mentioned, then tell us all about it.

None seems to be creeping ahead in the pole. Personally I have found that I can satisfy all my users requirements regarding reporting by developing new baan reports or customizing existing ones. Isn't this usually the case? Perhaps my users have low expectations or are easily satisfied, or both!!!

What about Business Intelligence Tools for Baan. I see Hyperion, Crystal and Business Objects, but what about MicroStrategy (www.microstrategy.com) and Eoscene Enterprise Information Portal (www.eoscene.com) and Cognos (www.cognos.com)?

Arean.

I thought a list of third party products would be nice to have. Keep adding to this list and we could consolidate and categorize once we have a good number of links.

I think MS Access is very qualified on your list.
I has beautiful a beautiful report designer, and there's absolutely no limit to what you can make with it. Criteria selection forms, temporary tables for speed, crosstabular queries and reports etc.

You can even utilize the security features inherit in the product and make role based menues.

Absolutely limitless. It has something for every kind of user. If you are a techie you can make sophistcated integreations using the VBA language.

I would MS Access for any kind of thing that people use MS Excel for. (With linked instead of entered data).

And not to mention: Everybody's got it and it's cheap!!

How about Syscomsoft ?

Also would it be interesting to see the "relative" size of the investment that has been sunk into these products ?

Recently I had an opportunity to evaluate the B2Email Plus 3.0 version and found that this has great functionalities. It only took less than an hour to get the product installed and then it is ready to go...:)

Well, if you are making a COMPLETE list, we have a couple of free add ons at:

http://www.rmcis.com/tools.html

Also, RMCis has Middeware - shop floor collection suite for DDC or OpenWorld (but that's not free).

As does Bridgelogix and Connectware. I for one would be interested in seeing those results :)

How about screen mapping software like RFGen (www.rfgen.com)? Are they of any use to companies still running Triton/BaanIV? Seems like you can forget about coding using AFS in BaanIV 4.0c4 altogether and just use screen mapping from RFGen or similar software

Rgds,
Paul
