Is it the Webtop or the OpenWorld that allows you access to Baan via the internet? Thanks in advance!

Depends on what you want to acheive.
If you need access to the Baan Menu Browser using Internet then you need to set up BI Server ( Baan Internet Server). If you want to setup a integration with Baan over the internet then you need iBaanOpenworld.

Thanks for your reply. I want the users to be able to access the menu browser via the net, so it looks like I need to set up a BI server. Thanks again.

BI will only allow a few sessions to be accessible via internet. Hardly 8 sessions I think.

Accessing BaaN Menu Browser is one thing, I have not seen anywhere. But if one wants to access the BaaN sessions via internet, BaaN Data Navigator should be able to help you. Though BaaN Data Navigator(BDN) is designed to work as an intranet application, technically it is possible to have BDN over internet.
When I did a BDN implementation, I found that one cannot import all the tables in BaaN into the BDN repository. You can have 'n' number of sessions imported into BDN, but there is a restriction on the number of tables that can be imported. It is around 300 tables. Moreover BDN is not designed for data entry into BaaN. It shud best be viewed as a navigation tool or reporting tool(Seagate Crystal Report is well integrated)

BDN + iBaaN Portal also can give similar benefits with additional benefit of the portal framework.

I have no idea abt webtop

Hope that helps.

Hi,

BI will not be supported in the future. You need Webtop and OpenWorld Adapter. (and if you install Version 2.2 of OpenWorld Adapter you also need BaaN Client License Manager BCLM).

by the way...

there is NO limit about accessible sessions with BI-Server! You can access the same sessions as you can with BW. Once, the BI-Server is set up, you have nothing special to do for using (new) sessions. They're all available. (I've implemented it several times)

If all you want to do is allow people to access Baan over an internet connection then port forwarding 512 through your router to your Baan server will allow the baan client to connect.

You can also use Microsoft VPN technology to connect to Baan over the Internet.

You will need a PC running Win NT/2000/XP with an Internet connection on the same Lan as your Baan Server. The client can connect to the Internet and then get connected over Internet to your local Lan and then use BW Client.

Hi, "sensoft99".

Use document U7089BUS.pdf from your Baan Documentation CD (for BaanERP 5.0). Or take it here from attachment.

Good luck,
Armin

Webtop is the product that allows you to access ERP sessions via the web, modify data in it, etc. Fully operational. OpenWorld is used by Webtop to exchange the data (form layout info, events, and 'plain' data) between web server and Baan backend. BI did something similar, although it is now phased out and no longer developed. BI offers the BW look-n-feel inside a Java 'coat' wrapped around it. Webtop offers a new, webby look-n-feel.

Hi There,

I think the simpliest solution to log in to Baan from the outside ( via internet )realy the VPN ( virtual private network ). It is the part of the most op.system( f.exp. Win XP ) so needn't to buy any expensive sofware. It's easy to set up, it takes about five minute.

Baan IVc4 has worktop and webtop . With connectivity through Citrix or remote desktop , one can use baan in triton 3.1 also.
