You can but you shouldn't until a certified porting set is available.
Using the last porting set available (6.1c.08) it's now possible to install it in 64 bits environments.

I haven't tried SQL Server 2008 with Baan yet but shortly I'll do it and report it here. Again the last porting set is not certified for SQL Server 2008 but I suspect it will work fine.
SQL Server 2005 is now certified even for SP3.

maybe it's just a matter of time.
but i'm more concerned with the bug if there's new porting set and new environment.

it used to be the case that whilst you can run Baan on the latest SQL server, the installation itself will fail as it doesnt recognise the SQL version. SO, install BaanIV with SQL2000 (or whatever) then upgrade to 2005 or 2008.

SQL Server in 64 bit environments was already supported in earlier versions of the porting set.
In the porting set documentation there's nothing stating that it works with SQL Server 2008 but I think it will.

We've been working with Infor on a project that will upgrade us from 4c4 to LN using SQL Server 2008.
We discovered a major problem with SQL Server 2008. If you do a full install of SQL Server 2008, the system will become incompatible with the Infor Install programs for both 4c4 and LN. We could not even install a porting set under this situation.
We've were unable to repair the system and as a result, we had to rebuild the machine from scratch.
Therefore, until a fix is made, when you install SQL Server 2008 only install:
Database Engine services
Client Tools Backwards Compatibility
Management Tools
With only these parts installed, we were able to do a complete install of ERP LN.
