Is a combination of a Baan IVc4 HP-UX application server and a True64 Unix database server possible? Database is Informix.

If you have the database driver on the application server (normal C/S) the connection goes via Informix, you have to check of Informix supports this.
If you have the databse driver on the database server, Baan takes care that the connection between bshell and driver goes fine. I don't see a problem there.
