We are trying to migrate from informix 7.3 to informix 9.4. Has anyone done migration from informix 7.3 to informix 9.4 ? Which approach did you use ? We are planning to create database in informix 9.4 and unload data from informix 7.3 and upload to informix 9.4 ? Will this approach work ? Do we need to migrate using informix migration path ? Please advise

I would suggest to run the normal update procedure for informix and no export and import of the Baan tables

Yes the normal informix setup of the 9.x version takes care of your problem.
Because the upgrade from version 7.x to 9.x is not a straight forward thing I advise you to make a cold backup of the informix chunks.
If the migration fails you can just restore the chunks that were changed and try it again saving you a lot of time if the database is large.
Consider a big increase in the locks parameter.
