Hi all Gurus
We are using BaaN IVc4 on Solaris 8 and informix7.31 with Level 2 drivers.
From the day we converted database to level 2 , we are getting one fatal error as follows:

log.bshell

Even BaaN is not able to resolve this problem (case pending with them for last 6 months)
Request all gurus to help us identify the where the problem is.

Regards
Murtaza

Looks like that error is genereated becuase the bshell can no longer write to the driver..
(socket closed between the two)

So your driver is terminating abnormally. There are a lot of things that could cause that...

One of my favourites is ulimits, what are your ulimits set to at the OS level?

(ulimit -a) for your users..

If its default, that's probably the problem...

Thanks for your reply
Checked for the ulimits (ulimit -a)\

following is set

time(seconds) unlimited
file(blocks) unlimited
data(kbytes) unlimited
stack(kbytes) 8192
coredump(blocks) unlimited
nofiles(descriptors) 1024
vmemory(kbytes) unlimited

Can you suggest some indicative values for the above parameters. Can we set it online.
I am further expanding the error

A "detected display server termination" is usually caused by a problem in the communication between the Baan server and BW (or BA; I'm assuming you're using BW). The Baan server cannot connect to BW anymore.

Questions: What happens at the same time that this message is logged? Does the user perform some action? What kind of action? Or does this error come up spontaneously? What message/error is shown to the user, if any?

Without those questions answered, the only thing I can suggest is to upgrade to the latest BW on the client (see Baan solution 13743) and see if the problem goes away.

If that fails check your network (cables, installed drivers, etc.); I mean, are you sure that Informix level1->2 was the only change you made to the Baan system and the clients?

Hi Murtaza,

Your stack is too low.. try 51200
ulimit -s 51200

you can put that in a bshell script, or in profiles, etc..

Also, your error message is it "Detected Database Server Termination" or "Detected Display Server Termination"

It does make a difference as marnix suggested.. I was assuming DB server termination..

Hi,

We have faced the same problem with our end. We have also logged the case with BaaN. But they have not provided any satisfactory answer. At the same time we have identified that our BaaN server is attached to 10mbps connection on switch. We have changed it to 100mbps and our problem get solved. Now we are not facing any problem.

You can check the same at your end also.

best luck.
