On our HP-UX server, the licd died twice. Our monitoring software restarted it both times. In the system log file, the following messages appeared at nearly the same time...

Mar 4 06:02:00 <hostname> syslog: identd: remote owner request failed : No such file or directory
Mar 4 06:10:33 <hostname> syslog: identd: remote owner request failed : No such file or directory

Has anyone seen anything similar to this?

I have had a problem once with the license daemon dying on me (continuously).

I remember it had something to do with a messed up TCP/IP stack, but that's about as much detail as you'll get from the guy who can't remember what he had for breakfast.
