I am a new BaaN user. In our shop when we receive and/or issue a material we record a transaction on the BaaN. Our code articles (part numbers) are lengthy. I.E. CPP400F04_N52004. When I enter the code, BaaN searches the code on the database and if found, it allow me to continue the operation. Otherwise it clears the field and I have to retype the entire code. What I would like to have is, if the code is not exist, instead of clearing the field, it should leave it. So I can just correct the code and re-try. Will it possible by turning-on or Off something on the settings?
Our system is: BaaN IV C4, Oracle 8x, NT 4

Hi shantha,
You can use the "Save Defaults" & "Get Defaults" in Options or Use the Crtl+C for copying the Item Code and use Crtl+V to Paste the same Item code.

You may also try using bar coding. Even simple bar coding will save time. You can put the bar codes on your routing sheets (or whatever is used), then a light pen attached to the PC (probably under $20 USD each) can scan the bar code. Saves on time and errors.

In most of the sessions it is possible to zoom to the item list and then search for an item. In this case you would be able to scroll through the list with similar item codes, select one without re-entering and continue in the main session.

to find records in any session, most of the times it's better to use the "find" button instead of the insert-button. First option will show the first present item on alphabatical order.

And in most sessions: if you are looking for itemcode "PARTNUMBER" and type in "PARTNUM," (part of the itemcode with a comma) and hit the tab key (bw interface) it will show you the itemlist sorted with the first possible match first.

Anybody ever found a solution to the problem as described by Shantha ?
It is particular annoying that when you make a typo you are punished by having to retype everything......even the simplest word processor is more clever then that.
(another example of the not-userfriendlyness of BaaN).
