Hi @ all!

I've got a discussion with some people in my company about the sign "^" in the itemcode.
Does anybody has an (real) itemcode in his company with this sign? Could you then send me an picture of the Baan-Itemcode?

Dear lli-baan,

Even if BaanERP can support those characters, it's still a good practice to only include alphabets and numbers in item code to minimise confusion for end users. End users usually only remember the alphabets and numbers on top of their heads, and only use alphabets and numbers in communicating item codes with other users. Saying, "I need item ABC1234" is much easier than saying, "I need item ABC dash 123 dash 4", for example

Paul

The other problem with characters comes into play when you interface with other systems through either bar code or edi. Certain characters can cause validation errors which may be addressed internally but never addressed externally.

U're all right!
But BaaN IV allows such characters in the itemcode and now we've found at our BaaN-System such an item. We killed the item in the meantime.

Now we discussed, if it is necessary to allow such signs.
We had the same answers than u.

Thanx for your small but helpful discussion!!! :)
