hi,

one of our customers is running Triton on an old HP-UX 10.20 server. We would like to move it to a new HP-UX 11i server. Is this possible?

In a nutshell: I know nothing-nada-zilch of Triton, so any pointer is welcome.

best regards,
Joenix.

Joenix,

The answer in a nutshell is yes - it is possible.

My recommendations for you thought since you have indicated that you know "nothing-nada-zilch of Triton" would be to try and simply apply the neccessary patches to upgrade from 10.20 to 11i on the same server.

The reason why is because there is some knowledge required around copying the tables/application information to the new server for licensing purposes, and Baan will not work just by simply making a copy of these files.

That's why I would recommend upgrading Unix on the existing server.

I would quickly check with Baan support just to be safe however - since this is a major unix version upgrade - theroetically it should be fine though.

If you decide you still want to move to a new server, you CAN simply copy all the files from one server to another, but there is a large amount of documentation that you must follow revolving around file ownership/permissions, environment variables, server licensing, and table re-licensing that you will need to must perform prior to Baan working.

Good luck.

Depends on your version of triton. If you say Triton 3.x then it's ok, just install latest portingset for BaanIV/Triton (6.1c.etc).

If it is triton 2.x don't. HPUx has changed it's handling pseudo terminals, which cause ba problems when the old portingset is used on HPUx11 (there is no new portingset for triton2.x).

ls -l $BSE/bin/bsh*?

I understood it can be done if the Sbit has been set... causing users to run it with root permissions.
