The IT department of Thermo Fisher Scientific in Asheville, NC has an opening for an energetic Manufacturing & Distribution Business Analyst. He or she will join a team IT professionals that together supports a growing and exciting life-sciences business that includes several manufacturing plants and a North American divisional sales and service organization.
The Business Analyst functions as a liaison between the business and IT. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the planning, purchasing, manufacturing and logistics business functions and the systems that enable their processes. The Business Systems Analyst is a change agent who utilizes his or her knowledge of business and IT to drive process improvements leveraging best-practices and technology to their full extent. As the IT owner of the manufacturing and distribution applications, the Business Analyst also provides day-to-day application support, troubleshoots problems and works with software vendors and programmers to provide solutions. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years experience as a business/systems analyst, consultant or equivalent in the areas of supply chain management, planning, manufacturing, procurement, quality and/or logistics. This position requires extensive experience with ERP systems (Baan). The ideal candidate is an energetic self starter with strong principles who wants to work in a dynamic but challenging team environment. Business Systems Analysts report to the Manager of IT. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates within the US or Canada.
Summary of Functional Responsibilities:
Drive best practices, process improvements and system optimizations in the areas of sales, planning, manufacturing, procurement, logistics and across the supply chain.
Analyze, model and document business processes using on-line business process management tools.
Analyze, design, select and implement system enhancements, bolt-on applications and/or commercial software packages to enable and optimize business processes.
Provide leadership and guidance in defining and implementing data standardization rules and enforcement mechanisms.
Design and implement metrics, cubes & reports to provide management with accurate and timely steering information to manage the business.
Develop SQL queries for ad-hoc reporting and data analysis.
Act as project manager for IT intensive business improvement projects.
Provide periodic class room training on supported systems.
Provide day-to-day process and application support to key users within the sales, planning, procurement, manufacturing, and logistics departments.
Troubleshoot technical problems with applications and data and interact with software suppliers and programmers to resolve these problems.
Experience and Education:
A minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as a business/systems analyst, consultant or equivalent in the areas of supply chain management, planning, manufacturing, procurement, quality and/or logistics. A bachelors degree in computer science, management of information systems, business, management science, operations management, engineering or equivalent work experience. APICS certification is a plus.
