The IT department of Thermo Fisher Scientific in Asheville, NC has an opening for an energetic System Administrator. He or she will join a team IT professionals that together supports a growing and exciting life-sciences business that includes several manufacturing plants and a North American divisional sales and service organization. The system administrator’s primary responsibility is the day-to-day operational management of mission-critical business/ERP systems (Baan) and ensuring their availability, security, performance and operation. In addition he or she will be involved in IT processes documentation and Sarbanes-Oxley audit and compliance activities. On the job system specific training will be provided. This is a full-time permanent position and it has the possibility to grow into a senior position. The system adminstator reports to the manager of IT. Functional Responsibilities:

• Monitor the proper functioning, performance, security and back-ups of mission-critical business systems.
• Maintain user accounts and access authorizations to operation systems, databases and business applications.
• Install software patches and customizations per defined change management procedures.
• Write and update IT system administration procedures.
• Define, maintain and monitor batch jobs and job schedules.
• Monitor and maintain printer and device setups and manage print queues.
• Communicate with the organization about major system events.
• Enforce Sarbanes-Oxley compliance rules, collect compliance data and execute periodic compliance processes.
• Assist in troubleshooting system problems.
• Work with software and outsourcing companies to resolve system issues
• Participate in process and system improvement projects

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Ability to sometimes work on weekends and holidays, as needed.

Experience and Education:

• Bachelors degree in a computer related field. Work experience and/or technical certifications could be substituted for a degree. Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience.

Experience Profile:

Required:

• Baan ERP systems administration (IVc4)
• Solid knowledge of information technology and system administration.
• Hands-on experience administrating business systems/ERP systems.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of UNIX and/or Linux (command line).
• Understanding of database structures.
• Writing basic SQL queries.
• Eager and quick learner.
• Technology savvy.
• Attention for detail.
• Energetic can-do attitude.
• Well organized and process oriented.
• Customer service focused.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Baan 5 or LN systems administration
• HP-UX System administration
• Unix shell scripting
