I can share a little bit of my experience. But I think it is difficult to formulate a step to step guidance on that.

1. Setup an intranet for sharing the knowledge. You don't need a specific KM software.
2. Try difficult kind of media, like short video, not limit to plain word documents
3. Each document is better short and specific, covering a piece of product knowhow or answers to common problems
4. Categorize, make it easy to find a certain topic
5. Encourage participation, make it a norm for colleagues who are about to leave, retire or being promoted to contribute the knowledge
6. Conduct short training sessions when necessary to reinforce knowledge to new comers.
