A [software] recovery depends on what backup solution you have first.
So start by evaluating you backup strategy first.

In out company we are doing disaster recovery by these following…
1) We have 2 IBM e-servers (one is production server and other one is fail over server), Baan installed on both servers; both servers are connected via “mimix” software. Mimix is a tool; it replicates the data from production to fail over server live.
2) Our Baan licenses are under “high availability cluster”
3) If some thing happens to our production server and we can’t recover our production server with in 30 to 60 minutes, we are going to start our Baan on fail over server and our users will start working through our fail over server. That point our Mimix tool will replicate the data from fail over system (at data base level) to production system until we fix the production Baan.
