Error: Calendar Period is Limited to 15 years because of Actual Calendar size

Received this error when trying to enter a new sales order that runs to 1/2020. The current Calendar is from 01012001 to 01032016.

What are the possible issues if I change the start year from 01012001 to 01012005? That allows me to end date @ 01032020. Is there a need to create an archive company before making changes to the default calendar?

This is a Production issue. Thank you for your responses.

Not that familiar with V, but based on IV, there is a company calendar in manufacturing/routings that needs to be extended from time to time.
