it is not necessary to use a third party product for simple statements.

Have a look on Baan documentation CD-ROM in the Installation Package. The Module is easy to handle, and the documentation on the CD is not as bad as a lot of others.

Even if you want to use a third party report software (for example for easier control over formatting), Baan Financial Statements provides a fairly easy way to pull together the ledger data. Then report from the FST tables.
