I need to write a sql that does the same thing as close periods.
I have searched all recommended files 201,203,206,106 do not find any
cents off, any unposted or unbalanced transactions. I do not have the
sources. so I just need to know exactly what it is doing so I can try to
get rid of this message. any suggestions will help. thank in advance.

If trial balance is out even after rebuild of ledger history (tfgld3203m000) , u can make use of this session to point imbalanced trx.

I can actually run the close with no problems, until I mark finally close...
this is the last period, closing right before I run close year. I have already completed all the other steps. I don't know what the finally close does verses the close, which is giving me the error....
