Does the purchase approval process for purchase requisition really work? Did anyone experience problem setting up an approval hierarchy in ERP-LN for purchase requisitions? Do we need to do any additional steps to block various sessions from user access through DEM? (Of course other than sessions in which user can add himself as an approver)

No it is not preventing other users then the approver to go to the approval session. You still need a workflow application.
