Hi,
I hope its the same like as in how you do it in Baan4. Below is the step for extending the description field...

1) Go to Maintain Domains
2) Copy the domain "tc dsca" to your own VRC package (if such a thing exists in your demo company).
3) Click on the copy command after selecting the domain "tc dsca" in Form1.
4) Once copied, in Form2 enter the desired length in field String Length
5) Click on Save Button and then Click on Special menu and select "Convert to Runtime Data Dictionary {ttadv5215s000}" (you can even run this separately ttadv5215m000)..
6) Select the package combination you are part of, as in Step 2
7) Enable the check boxes Domains, Tables, Reconfigure Tables & Print Errors.
8) Select packages <Blank> to zz
9) Select tables 000 to zzz999 and click on continue.
10 Re-start your Baan (may need to stop and restart Shared memory)..

there is more to it. You may need to open any report or forms where this domain is used. This is not dome automatically. Its painful excercise to do.

It is not advisable to change the standard. Though it will solve your purpose.

Alternatively what you can do is, you can create a new table with 2 fields, item and item description.

Have the item decsription field length as you want, and where ever you want to use the longer item description, you can map the new table and item master table.

This way you wont touch the standard and your purpose will also be resolved.

I not customize LN before. Can you help me in the way to create new table and attach it to Item master file. If succesful with it, can i copy the "extra" description of item to purchase item, sale item....

Why not put the information within the text?

Why not put the information within the text?

The user want to see the description directly. They don't want open item data to text. It slow down their work.

Sorry, I don't want to critizise your organization but if this is the case then there is a serious lack of understanding what is going on within the company.

Hi,

You can mention the item details in Item session text (T) data and can be printed anywhere in the report.

Thanks,

You can make a Display sesssion on the basis of the item description & attache that session wherever it is required

If your company end users not able to write text, that is lack of understanding. see its difficult to change the Item description domain because item having the impact in the lot of baan table, its not recommended.
